What are the main reasons for the reduction of turbocharger boost pressure and boost ratio?

11-04-2022

The reduction of the boost pressure and the reduction of the boost ratio means that the amount of charge entering the cylinder is reduced, the power of the diesel engine is weakened, and the fuel consumption and exhaust temperature of the diesel engine will increase. The main reasons for this are as follows:

(1) Due to the long-term use of the air filter or the bad working environment, the filter element is blocked, resulting in an increase in the suction resistance and a decrease in the boost pressure.

(2) Oil dirt adheres to the air passages inside the compressor. When the air flows inside the compressor, the resistance increases, which reduces the pressure of the compressor and reduces the efficiency.

(3) The compressor seal ring fails, the compressor airflow leaks, and the pressure drops.

(4) Due to the poor combustion of the diesel engine, serious carbon deposits, and bearing damage, the rotor components increase the rotational resistance of the turbine and reduce the speed of the turbine, thereby reducing the boost pressure.

(5) Air leakage from the intake pipe joint of the diesel engine reduces the boost pressure.

(6) Due to the blockage of the exhaust pipe muffler and the poor exhaust, the back pressure of the turbine exhaust is too high, resulting in a low boost pressure.

(7) The moving friction pairs such as cylinder liner, piston, piston ring, air valve and valve seat ring of supercharged diesel engine are seriously worn, and the leakage of supercharged air is large after entering the cylinder. Although the flow of the compressor increases, the supercharging pressure and Compressor efficiency is reduced.

(8) For a supercharged diesel engine with an intercooler, when oil dirt adheres to the air passages inside the intercooler, the air flow resistance increases, which will also weaken the boost pressure.
